Miami - two months in!

Hey guys! Mom said some of you were saying I should blog again, since I’m in Miami now. So here goes!:

The Job Scene: I got a job at a law firm as a legal secretary. I’m learning a lot of legal terms/practices, and the people are all really nice. The office is only about 15/20 minutes from my house, so it's not too shabby. I got my first paycheck recently, so I don't feel like I'm working for free anymore. I'm thinking (loosely at the moment) about attending law school. I'm also researching low-residency programs for creative writing. Those are masters programs in which most of the communication is done through email and other electronic methods, and you only visit the campus twice a year (about a week each time) for in depth writing workshops. Anyways, these are all just thoughts at the moment.

Miami Scene: Today we went to the Miami Art Museum (because it’s free every second Saturday of the month, and I’m all about free things and all about museums). Anyways, Mark, Elliot, and I went, and there was an exhibit (I can't remember the exact name, unfortunately) that involved lots of illusions. In one room, it was completely dark, and all that you could see was a design of bright green lasers. It was pretty cool. Then we hit the public library (the main one, downtown) and headed home. Just grilled burgers, and now we're watching a movie. Or they are; it's kind of gruesome so I'm filling my time with typing.

My Recent Fantasy VayCay: pictures to follow! Mark and I were invited pretty last minute to visit the Bahamas with Ally and her family. Ally is the girlfriend of Mark's older brother Scott, and her dad is a surgeon in Nashville. He's the same surgeon that did KK's knee surgery on New Years Eve ten years ago, we discovered! I digress. We left from Key Largo and rode a yacht to Cat Cay, a tiny island in the Bahamas. On the way there (it was a 3 hour boat ride), we saw a storm on the water (in the distance) which had a water spout! A water spout is a tornado on water. It was awesome! Sorry if that scares you mom, but the Captain wasn't worried, and we were completely safe. The first day we were there, Mark and I ran around the island like ten-year-olds. The house they had rented was right on the beach. The island was private; you could only visit it if you knew someone that owned property there. In this case I think it was Dr. Byrd's friend, so that's how we rented it. The stars were really clear (it's hard to see stars in Miami, only downfall) and bright, and the island was filled with wild turkeys, chickens, cats, and roosters! We woke at sunrise every day, grabbed our swimsuits, and ran to the boat. One day, Mark was in the water and 13 (that's all we could count, there may have been more) wild dolphins swam up to him!! We all jumped in and played with them after that. They were really close to us, and studying us just as we were studying them. It was amazing. And after many days of eating fresh fish and lobster and chilling in the sun, we returned to Miami. Now I'm back to work.

Next Monday, August 18th, we're leaving for San Francisco. Mark's parents are flying us out there, and all also his two older brothers (and one's wife and one's gf) for wine tastings in Napa Valley! I'm pretty psyched that I lucked upon two places I've never got to visit before. And you all know how I love to travel so! So I'll post some pics of Cat Cay now, and soon look for pics/updates about California. Mark and I both forgot our cameras, so the pictures are from Ally's camera. But she got some good ones.

Enjoy! I miss you all and hope everyone's well. Keep in touch, and check out my blog, which I will update anytime anything noteworthy (or heck, even anything remotely interesting) occurs. Love!
